What We Do
On July 11, 2017, Lancaster City Council adopted a new Sign Ordinance, replacing the sign chapter that previously was part of the Zoning Ordinance. Along with the new ordinance, City Council adopted a Resolution creating the three-member Sign Commission and setting forth its powers and duties, which include the review and approval of signs proposed in the Central Business Districts (CB and CB1), with such review considering the design and illumination of signs, and to grant modifications of provisions within the Sign Ordinance, provided there is no detrimental impact on public health, safety and welfare and no negative impact on the building, lot or immediate neighborhood.
Proposed signs that are consistent with the Sign Ordinance will be approved administratively by Sign Administrator Jameel Thrash, who can be reached at jathrash@cityoflancasterpa.gov or at (717) 291-4736.
The Sign Commission meets as necessary on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall, 120 North Duke Street, as per its meeting schedule.
