Nominations Open for Ethics Commission

Section 12 of the adopted City of Lancaster Home Rule Charter calls for the creation of an independent Ethics Commission, to be made up of seven (7) City residents, appointed as follows:

• Two (2) members appointed by the Mayor
• Three (3) members appointed by City Council
• Two (2) members appointed by the City Controller

Candidates for appointment to the Ethics Commission will be placed on a public list of nominees to serve on the Commission. Candidates may nominate themselves, or be nominated by others.

Initial term lengths will be staggered to ensure an ongoing process of new Commission members.

Nominee Eligibility

All nominees to the Ethics Commission must be residents of the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

 

The City of Lancaster Home Rule Charter (§12.01(b)) states: “No member of the Ethics Commission during their term of service may hold appointed office or elected office in City government for up to one year prior to serving on the Commission or hold any political party office or political action committee position for one year prior to serving on the commission.”

 

The City of Lancaster Home Rule Charter (§12.02(c)) also states: “Appointments will be made with consideration to a Commission membership that reflects the City’s diversity in regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, familial status, sexual orientation, national origin, gender identity, age, disability, and geographic location of residence.”

 

Candidates for appointment to the Ethics Commission will be placed on a public list of nominees to serve on the Commission.

 

If considered for appointment to the Ethics Commission, the nominee will be asked to affirm the following:

 

• The nominee’s primary residence is in the City of Lancaster.
• The nominee has not held any appointed or elected office in City of Lancaster government within the last year.
• The nominee has not held any political party office within the last year.
• The nominee has not held any political action committee position with the last year.

Nominating Yourself

To nominate yourself for the Ethics Commission:

  1. Complete an Ethics Commission Nomination form.
    All fields marked with * are required. You will receive a copy of your nomination form via email.
  2. Your name will automatically appear on the public list of nominees.
  3. Your nomination will be considered by the bodies responsible for making appointments to the Ethics Commission.

Nominating Someone Else

To nominate someone else for the Ethics Commission:

  1. Complete an Ethics Commission Nomination form.
    All fields marked with * are required. You will receive a copy of your nomination form via email.
  2. The individual you nominate will receive an automated email informing them that you nominated them, and asking them to accept the nomination.
    The individual will have 14 days to accept the nomination, and will receive a reminder email after 7 days. The nomination will expire if no action is taken within 14 days.
  3. Once the individual accepts the nomination, they will receive an automated email asking them to affirm the information you submitted on their behalf for their nomination.
    The nomination form will be pre-populated with the information you entered. The individual will be able to change the information you submitted.
  4. When the individual completes the form, their name will automatically appear on the public list of nominees.
  5. The individual’s nomination will be considered by the bodies responsible for making appointments to the Ethics Commission.
