City of Lancaster to Celebrate National Poetry Month with Interactive Living Poetry Museum

The City of Lancaster will honor National Poetry Month during First Friday in April with the Lancaster Living Poetry Museum, an immersive and educational celebration of poetry and music. The event, produced by Lancaster City Poet Laureate Dana Kinsey, will bring renowned poets and musicians to life through an interactive performance experience.

On April 4 from 6 to 9 p.m., 21 performers will embody celebrated poets and musicians across ten venues in downtown Lancaster, presenting one-person performances that combine education and entertainment.

Locations and performers include:

  • Hempfield Apothetique: Jonathan Kedrock as Gil Scott-Heron, Sir Dominique Jordan as Common Sense, Malia Burris as Aja Monet, and FreeHuey! as Kendrick Lamar
  • Bert & the Elephant: Heather Davis as Kim Addonizio, Jordan Rast as Leonard Cohen
  • Lancaster Public Library: Carol Allen as Nikki Giovanni, Kris Boston as James Baldwin, Maria Thompson-Corley as Rita Dove
  • Read Rose Books: Skyler Gibbon as Emily Brontë
  • Proof: Cristline Edward as Erykah Badu, Jasmine Taylor as Billie Holiday
  • Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square & Lancaster County Convention Center: Ruel Rahim as Lennox Raphael, Bronte Spidaliere as Laura Pausini
  • Lancaster Sweet Shoppe: Starr Snyder as Emily Dickinson
  • Lancaster Art Vault: Josh Cohen as Robert Lowell, Trinity Cover as Sylvia Plath
  • Café One Eight: Xiomara Franco as Maya Angelou, Shelby Wormley as Phyllis Wheatley
  • Tellus360: Lord Eli as Edgar Allan Poe, Beatrice Zorrilla as Delmira Agustini

A second performance will take place on April 5, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. at The Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St. All performers will transform into living statues, coming to life at the press of a button to present their poets on demand. A talk-back session, reception, and photo opportunities will follow in the Salon at The Ware Center.
