Mayor Danene Sorace will join Mayor Eddie Moran of Reading in declaring Friday, Sept. 25 Census Emergency Day, the City of Lancaster announced today. Census Emergency Day and its related activities are aimed at ensuring an accurate census count.
“An accurate 2020 Census count is crucial for Lancaster City and other Pennsylvania communities to receive our fair share of federal funding and representation. A complete count is a top priority for the City of Lancaster. We encourage media partners, community agencies, and neighborhood organizations to help us push out census information until the 2020 Census ends on Sept. 30.” said Mayor Sorace.
Mayor Sorace and Mayor Eddie Moran of the City of Reading will host a joint Live at Five today at 5 p.m., which will be broadcast on both the City of Lancaster’s Facebook page and the City of Reading’s Facebook page. The mayors will engage in discussion on the impact of the 2020 Census on community planning, funding for infrastructure, and representation in Congress, identifying what’s at stake with an undercount and how our communities have experienced historical undercounting.
In Lancaster, a caravan including Mayor Sorace, the Lancaster Bureau of Fire, TCP Network, and other City officials will travel the city on Friday, making stops in undercounted census tracts.
