Celebrating the Power of Poetry: City of Lancaster Opens Applications for 2024 Poet Laureate Program

Applications are open now through June 10 for the 2024 Lancaster City Poet Laureate program. Funded in partnership between the City of Lancaster, Nobody’s Pen, Dr. Clark McSparren, Jerry Eckert, and Phil and Janet Calhoun, the program will foster connection and engagement through the written and spoken word.

The next poet laureate will serve for two years to elevate the art of poetry and utilize it as a catalyst for community engagement. They will be expected to host or participate in at least two literary events each quarter, participate in City events twice a year, and create one special project with the City.

The position is open to applicants 18 years and older, preferably residing within the School District of Lancaster. Selection will be based on a passion for the literary arts, commitment to community engagement, and embracing the opportunity for civic discourse through the arts.

The poet laureate will receive an honorarium of $3,000.
